If you're in the market for a used pickup truck, then you should make a list of things to check for. A used pickup truck can be a real bargain, but it can also end up being a major headache if you don't do your research.

By spending just a little time doing research, you will be able to save quite a bit of money and also avoid ending up with a real lemon.

Look For A Popular Model

A popular truck will allow you to be more selective. The more cars you have to choose from, the fewer compromises you'll have to make.

You should take a look at a used F-150 from Ford. It is the best-selling vehicle in the country.

It's a great choice for a pickup. It is a full size. That makes it large enough to carry most anything you want to. The bed is big and ideal for trips to the home improvement store, plant nursery, or even to the city dump.

The interior is roomy. Because it is a full-size pickup, you won't sacrifice interior space for exterior bed space. Likewise, the bed is not a short, useless bed like you find on many smaller models.

Choose a Non-Professional Car

Pickup trucks have different issues than other cars. The primary one is that they are often used as work cars. Contractors use them because they are great for carrying tools and are sturdy. So, it is likely that landscapers, painters, masons, and many other people have used these cars as work cars. This doesn't necessarily mean that car has more wear and tear, but it is something to consider.

Pickups are also often used for snow plowing. A landscaper might attach a plow to the front of their car and use it to make extra income during the winter. This will put a lot of stress on the car.

If the pickup bed has built-up sides, then it indicates it was used in a professional capacity. People build up the back walls so that they can fit more items in the bed of the truck. For instance: lawnmowers, stepladders, welding units, and other large items.

Certified Is Good

It's always a good idea to get a certified car. These cars provide you with more security than a random used car. You will get several different warranties; some for the entire car, others for specific parts (engine).  The cars are inspected. This helps to weed out any real trouble spots that you might miss if you buy a non-certified car.
